Key defender Patrick Ambrose is set to undergo a procedure on his wrist after suffering an injury at training on Friday.

Essendon Physical Performance Manager Justin Crow said Ambrose’s recovery time is yet to be set in stone.

“Pat Ambrose fell on his outstretched hand during training on Friday. After getting scans on Monday it was revealed that he has a fractured scaphoid in his wrist,” Crow said.

“Pat will have surgery to fix the issue on Tuesday and following the operation we expect to receive further clarification on what recovery time frame is required before he is available to return to play.”

The injury rules Ambrose out of the side’s opening game of the season against Adelaide at Etihad Stadium on Friday night.
