We chatted with assistant coaches Nick Daffy (forward), Ben Patrick (midfield) and Wayne Schultz (defence) for a performance on the six best Bombers from our Round 18 loss to Port Melbourne...

Jayden Laverde

“The last couple of matches, Jayden’s really stepped up his work rate and his intent to compete. He played a lot in the midfield and forward and just played a strong game. He had 28 touches and about eight clearances in basically three quarters. His drive and his aggression at the ball was really pushed to his teammates as well. From what I can see, he’s got a new amount of confidence which I think if he gets the chance in seniors, we’ll see him impact some games at a level that he hasn’t done before.” – Nick Daffy

Aaron Heppell

“He positioned himself well to defend the leads of Robin Nahas and to minimise that distance and separation he had on Nahas when the ball comes in the area. He played tight on him; Nahas was very quiet throughout the game and that was due to Hepp’s mindset to adjust accordingly. On the flip side too, his offensive work was outstanding as well: he got up the ground, got involved, his individual efforts were outstanding with the way he read cues and put himself in good positions to impact. His game was first class.” – Wayne Schultz

Dylan Clarke

“He had a mid/forward role, something that he’s been playing the last four to six weeks. It’s a role that he would be playing at AFL if he was to get the opportunity, so time split between midfield and forward and his role hasn’t really altered throughout the course of the season. It’s just been a matter of him working his strengths which is winning the contested ball and wining clearances and also providing some forward pressure when he goes forward and gets opportunities to score.” – Ben Patrick

Danny Younan

“Danny was instrumental early and got us off to a good start. He’s always the hardest worker out there, finished with three goals and unfortunately missed that last one which would have given him four goals and made an elite game for him. Danny continues to always be our best small forward, working hard in pressure and making the most of the opportunities he gets.” – Nick Daffy

Josh Green

“Greeny was good on the weekend. He had 20 touches, two goals, he worked really high up and stayed connected with all the contests, was positive with his work with the younger guys … I thought his game was pretty good and he stayed connected, which is what we wanted him to do.” – Nick Daffy

Nick Hind

“He used his speed really well to get clear of congestion and out of stoppages – that’s something that we’ve been working on with Hindy, to use his speed in really dangerous areas and he did that on the weekend.” – Ben Patrick
