The traditional ‘curtain raiser’ will make a comeback ahead of the round eight match between Essendon and Geelong.

This will be the second instalment of the Powercor Country Game Festival and  is scheduled for Saturday May 13th.

Before the Bombers and Cats take the field, a match showcasing some of the best country football talent will take place.

Following the inaugural WorkSafe AFL Victoria Community Championships last year, representative players in the number one ranked Geelong Football Netball League will face second placed Mornington Peninsula Nepean Football Netball League

“We are delighted to provide some of community football’s best senior players with the chance to run out and showcase their skills in front of big crowds in the heart of Melbourne’s sporting precinct,” AFL Victoria Community Football and Engagement Manager Brett Connell said.

“The AFL Country Game is a great platform to highlight the importance of regional Victoria, and for city and country football fans to come together and celebrate country football.

“The 2017 WorkSafe AFL Victoria Community Championships promises to be another exciting initiative within community football and the opportunity to participate in senior representative programs continues to be a highlight for footballers in grassroot community competitions across the state.”

In addition to the curtain raiser, the Yarra Park precinct will again bring a taste of the country to heart of the city.

The animals, food, music and machinery we associate with life on the land will be there for all footy fans to enjoy.
